1.1 The context

9th of March 2020

Italy has been the first western country to enforce to its population a national lockdown.

From this date, millions of people have seen their habits and life conditions abruptly changed and the true impact the pandemic would have brought on the entire country started to manifest itself.

Schools closed, shop shutters down, empty squares. Life was like crystallised but for some people it kept going through online lessons, smartworking, hospital wards and food banks.

The sanitary emergency made us spectators of bulletins showing us ever-changing graphics and mathematical laws unknown to the most until then. We were looking at the contagions curve soaring, intensive care beds decreasing and the pressure of our health system constantly growing. Behind the Tv and smartphone screens, a stronger sense of community was born, everyone was living the same situation.

As a natural reaction to this sympathy for one another, we decided to put our skills and knowledge in the digital field to the service of the ones more in need. We wanted to make our part and, even if by a little, ease the pressure on the health system.

From here, the beginning of our research, the starting point of our project.

1.2 The starting point

A positive collateral effect of the pandemic has been the push given to the innovation and digitalisation in numerous fields.

Distance learning for schools, a new shopping from home experience for businesses and a widespread use of food-delivery platforms for restaurants.

This digital revolution applied to the health field could improve both effectiveness and efficiency.
